Research Study Privacy policy

Last updated 15 August 2024

1. Introduction and purpose of this Privacy Policy
Welcome to the Hero (Pose AR Ltd.) research study Privacy Policy. This document describes how we use the data that you provide to us as a participant (or a potential participant) in a research study conducted by us, as well as the steps we take to protect your data and respect your privacy.

2. Definition of personal data
Personal data is defined as “any information that relates to an identified or identifiable living individual”. Different pieces of information, which collected together can lead to the identification of a particular person, also constitute personal data. This means that name, address, phone number are considered personal data. However, it also means that other information such as log data, encrypted data or other types of electronic ID such as an IP-Address or cookie identifier can also be classified as personal data - if they can be connected to a person.

3. Who does this policy apply to?
This policy applies to any data that you provide to us as part of your participation with a Hero Research Study, including any data you provide during initial sign-up or expression of interest. If you were selected (and agreed) to take part in a study, we refer to you as a “participant”. Prior to selection, or if you were never selected to take part, we refer to you as a “potential participant”.

4. What types of data do you collect?
In order to participate in a Hero study, you will need to provide data that identifies you and confirms your eligibility according to the study criteria. Whenever we conduct research studies, we aim to ensure that the mix of study participants reflect the broader population. This means that we will often request data that helps us to ensure this is the case, such as your age, sex, height and weight. In addition, your participation in the study itself will generate data which we will store against your identity, for example, if you take part in laboratory CPET testing, the results of that assessment, including for example your heart rate during the assessment, your peak VO2 consumption, blood lactate, etc. will be used by us for the purpose of the study analysis.

5. How will my data be used?
We will only ever use the data you provide as part of a research study for the stated purpose of that study, which will be made clear to you before you sign-up. We will never use the data that you provide to us during a research study for marketing communication or allow any other organisation to do so.

We will never share, sell or transfer your data to any 3rd party except in the following circumstances:

  • When the 3rd party is a subprocessor which has signed an agreement with us to only process the data on our behalf and explicit instruction (e.g. our cloud provider AWS) and to maintain the privacy and security of the data in line with this privacy policy. You can find out more details about our subprocessors here; or
  • In order to safely and fairly administer the study itself. For example, we may need to pass your name and contact details to the testing facility that is being used during the study in order for them to contact you to book your assessment. In these cases, we will share only the minimum information required; or
  • As required by law or as directed by a suitable authority.

6. What is the legal basis for your processing of my data?
All of our processing is conducted by your consent, which you may withdraw at any time. By taking part in any study, you are consenting to your data being processed in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

7. Where do we store the data?
The personal data we collect is processed at our offices in Norwich and in any other locations operated by us in the UK. Your data will not be transferred outside the EEA.

8. How long do we store your data?
We will process your personal data only for as long as is required to complete the research study for which it was provided, and at any rate no longer than 6 months from the date of your sign-up.

9. Changes to this privacy policy
We are constantly working on improving our App and Service, so we may change this Privacy Policy from time to time and will post the new Privacy Policy on this page.

You should check this page periodically for any changes, to make sure you are happy with anything that has changed.
